A new species for the Netherlands, found in the Amsterdamse Bos in 2019. Reported in Nature Today (11 March 2020): "in het Amsterdamse bos vorig jaar een paar bijzondere gordijnzwammen zijn gevonden, waaronder een nieuwe soort voor Nederland: Cortinarius variiformis." Note: Zero observations exist in waarneming.nl — the famous specimen lives only in NMV / KNNV herbarium records, not in the public citizen-science database. There are however 15 unidentified Cortinarius spec. records and 12 Cortinarius spec. wrong (self-corrections by observers).
